Say no to takeout! Make this easy Chinese-Inspired stir fry with Woon Stir Fry Sauce instead.

Craving the ease of a takeout stir fry (no dishes, yay!), but on a homemade dinner kind of budget? Let us show you how easy it is to take pre-cooked, pre-cut ingredients and turn them into a restaurant quality meal in 30min. The secret is having a Sauce Sidekick!

The Sauce Sidekick curated sauce for this recipe is the umami rich stir fry sauce from the folks at Woon, a homestyle Chinese restaurant in Los Angeles CA. This sauce is thick enough to coat ingredients with the familiar flavors of stir-fry, but not too rich or salty like some of the other grocery store brands. It's a perfect sidekick when the craving for a stir-fry hits.

In their (Woon's) own words,

"Woon was born out of a desire to share Mama Fong's story. It started as a pop-up in 2014 and now has two restaurant locations in Los Angeles and Pasadena along with a line of pantry staples."

A suggested recipe is below. In it we are using pre-cut grilled chicken, but as with most Sauce Sidekick curated sauces you can sub in your favorite protein if chicken is not your thing (e.g. tofu, shrimp or beef). Be sure to add in the chopped vegetables for a balanced meal, and in less than 30 min you'll have dinner on the table

Quick & Easy Chinese-Inspired Weeknight Stir Fry

Prep: 10min, Cook: 20min

Ingredients

  • 1lb-1.5lb Pre-Cut Grilled Chicken (or any other protein of your choice)
  • 1/2 white onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 Bag of pre-washed, pre-cut stir fry vegetables (don't have pre-cut vegetables on hand, don't worry just make your own mix with some washed and chop a bell pepper, head of broccoli, snow peas, shredded napa cabbage, sliced cremini mushrooms)
  • 1 Bottle of Woon Stir Fry Sauce (you'll only a 1/3 of the bottle)
  • 1 cup rice, uncooked
  • cooking oil
  • Directions

Directions

  1. Prepare the rice. Wash and rinse the rice. Next, transfer to a rice cooker, add water, and launch a quick cook program, or place rice in a pot with 2 cups water and bring to a boil. Once boiling, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer for 15min, or until cooked.
  2. While the rice is cooking, heat a tablespoon of cooking oil in a wok, or other large heavy bottom skillet.
  3. Carefully add sliced onions to the wok and stir fry for 2-3min. Then add remaining vegetables and stir fry for 4-5 min (or until the vegetables are cooked).
  4. Next, toss in the pre-cut grilled chicken (or other pre-cooked protein of your choice). Stir to combine.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium, and add the Woon Stir Fry Sauce (we also like to add 2-3 tablespoons of water), toss.
  6. Let simmer 2-3min, until sauce is coating all ingredients.

Serve immediately with a heaping bowl of rice.
